The Best Green Smoothies on the Planet & Lemon-Lime Green Smoothie Recipe

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Green smoothies have gained a great deal of popularity in recent years and for lots of good reasons. They make it easy to boost your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, are fast and simple to prepare, and best of all are a delicious way to enhance your health.

I also recommend green smoothies in the beginning stages of transitioning to the raw food detox diet for those who have difficulty tolerating a high fruit intake. Adding leafy greens to a fruit smoothie slows down the absorption of sugars to keep blood glucose levels more stable. In this way green smoothies can help you adjust as you gradually increase the amount of fruit in your diet.

How to Make the Perfect Green Smoothie

The basic premise of making a green smoothie is simple: combine sweet fruits with fresh leafy greens and blend to create a delicious and nutritious beverage. However, when creating a blend that is both nutritious and delicious there is much to learn from experience, as I am sure those of you who have experimented with green smoothies can attest to.

When Tracy Russell discovered the benefits of green smoothies she lost 40 pounds, reduced her cholesterol score by fifty points, and began running marathons. Since then she has become a green smoothie advocate.

Lemon-Lime Green Smoothie

This smoothie is a little tart because of the lemon and lime, but it’s well worth trying. The grapes and banana help to sweeten it a little.

This smoothie might be small, but it’s loaded with nutrients. Just one cup of kale adds 8 percent of your recommended daily value of calcium, 10 percent of your recommended daily value of fiber, and 3 grams of protein. Most of the nutrients in the smoothie come from the kale.

    1. Raw kale has more nutrients but not everyone digests it well. Juicing or blending makes it easier to digest and so does cooking but you make a compromise with the nutrition.

Raw kale also has the possibility to slow down thyroid function when consumed in excess, but for the average person a green juice or green smoothie with kale every other day or so should not be a problem.

  1. Ahh Thanks for the Clarification (very refreshing) Digestion should not be a problem -I”ve been eating raw for along time and drinking tonic herbal teas daily, so my guts good micro bacteria are supercharged.
Got so much kale in my garden – This will be my “go to” for eating it all.

    Thanks Again Mizpah!
